September 29th, 2008

On 17th of October 2008 EMI Music Poland develops music written to films of Magdalena Piekorz – Drawsiness and The Welts. Music has been recorded by the Polish Radio Orchestra from Warsaw. Justyna Steczkowska has performed vocal parts.

On 18th of October Drawsiness comes to cinemas in Poland.

Magdalena Piekorz, the director of The Welts, which won the Golden Lion at the Gdynia Polish Film Festival in 2004, is currently shooting her second feature.

Sennosc (“Sleep”), like The Welts, is written by renowned young Polish author Wojciech Kuczok. The director commented: “I love working with Wojciech Kuczok’s texts. They are always extremely dense, emotionally intense and at the same time well constructed”.

Sennosc centres on three individual characters whose stories become intertwined as the film unfolds: actress Rosa (Malgorzata Kozuchowska), doctor Adam (Rafal Mackowiak) and writer Robert (Krzysztof Zawadzki) all suffer the same burden of disturbed sleep.

Rosa cannot work because she suffers from narcolepsy, Adam is unable to return to his family and leave behind city life and Robert finds no inspiration. However, owing to a combination of circumstances, the three characters meet and life gives them a chance to escape their lethargy.

Piekorz explains: “The film is a psychological drama but it is full of optimism and hope. The story shows that everyone has a chance to be saved and, thanks to others, nobody is condemned to defeat. Often, you just need a bit of encouragement to get out of an impasse”.
